School Officials

Our Sixth Form students play a key part in the smooth running of the school. Each year a team of around 100 prefects helps to monitor and manage younger students around the site at breaktime and lunchtime, maintaining a safe and friendly environment. A group of mentors works closely with the youngest students, helping them adapt to life at secondary school and encouraging them to make the most of the opportunities that exist. A competitive selection process is used to identify a group of students to act as Senior Prefects and House Captains, and the whole structure is led by a School Captain who, with two deputies, acts as the public face of the student body.

The selection process was rigorous and challenging, with the candidates going through a variety of tasks to demonstrate their teamwork skills. The different activities included: a public speaking challenge where the students wrote a speech about their experience of the school and outlined what it meant to them; a team building section where using spaghetti, string and tape the prefects built a structure to support a marshmallow; a discussion task to see how well they could interact with each other and come up with productive suggestions and work towards putting them into place; a problem solving task where the students’ dedication to Ken’s and other vital aspects of Challoner’s life was put to the test; and finally, a mysterious interview with the Senior Prefects in the year above.

It was a good opportunity for the chosen prefects to work in groups with people they hadn’t necessarily worked with before and also enabled them to demonstrate the communication and teamwork skills which they’ve developed over their time at Challoner’s.
