Thanks to a legacy from Robert Chaloner, the school opened its doors in 1624 stating that the school was to be opened as a ‘free grammar scoole in Amersam in the County of Bucks’.  His intentions still resonate today.  Education at DCGS remains free and we are proud to offer an outstanding education to local students.

However, it is the generosity of others following in Robert Chaloner’s footsteps that has shaped the school over its recent history.

Financial support from parents, alumni, trusts, foundations and companies have allowed a myriad of improvements to our site. Over the last 25 years alone, thanks to these gifts, we have been able to invest heavily in our facilities to build a new Sixth Form Centre, improve our Sport, Music and Drama provision, create two new Science Laboratories, and refurbish a number of others. Most recently we have opened our new Student Support Centre.

We are also grateful to the many alumni and parents who support in other ways. From mentoring students, supporting our careers programme or working with our Friends organisation, their contribution makes a real difference to our students today.

Our sincere thanks go to everyone who is supporting the School by donating to the various projects in our Development Programme.   We are amazed by the generosity of so many members of our community.
