Liverpool GCSE Art Trip

In early July, we went on an art trip to Liverpool to look at architecture. We arrived at the train station with our groups and travel group leaders. The whole journey to Liverpool took about three hours. The train journey was great and was a good opportunity to do art and experiment with our surroundings. We looked around the World Museum and did sketches of the skull exhibit. We ended the first day by going to the beach and looking at the Gormley sculptures, which we drew with water pens. The hotel was great and references to the Beatles were everywhere.

Jude (Year 10) 

On the second day, we really explored the city of Liverpool, looking at the cathedrals and the surrounding architecture. Before we got stuck into drawing, we viewed the city from the river, going on a boat ride (Razzle Dazzle), to see the gorgeous skyline. We produced many architectural drawings throughout the day and also photography challenges. There was always something to do and the day came to a nice close by going to the Odeon cinema to watch Toy Story 5. 

Kaden (Year 10)

The last day of our trip came quickly, but we still had a full itinerary! After packing our suitcases, we went to the Liverpool Library, which was beautiful, particularly in the older section. We then stopped at the Walker Gallery, which had rooms covering many centuries of art. The special exhibition on gender was particularly interesting. We enjoyed making sketches of the artworks and photographing those that interested us. The journey home to Amersham was going almost too well until we became stranded at Harrow on the Hill! An hour later, tired and hot, we arrived back at Amersham Station. Overall, the trip was extremely interesting and offered a lot of inspiration for our coursework.
