Enrichment Day: Year 12 London Challenge

On 24 September, Year 12 embarked on a journey to London, set with the task of locating particular sites around our vast capital, taking photos for evidence and striving to bag the most points for our team - a grand prize for first place was waiting back at school. Eager and brimming with excitement, we all found our groups, reviewed our previously conducted plans once more, and set off around London.

After a rather chaotic huddle around the Sherlock Holmes statue, which was conveniently placed right outside Baker Street station (our starting point), we all branched off around London. Some took the tube without hesitation, whilst other groups, such as mine, decided to take a walk around and capture photos of particular places, including churches, universities and more.

By strategising big point items, most teams concluded that the museums were the big-ticket items. So as my team made it to South Kensington, we were greeted by a panoply of different teams, and entered together, helping each other navigate the multitude of dinosaurs, artefacts and paintings in order to optimise points gained.

To add to the challenge, there were also multiple bonus points to be won, such as taking a photo with an animal, which was proven rather simple with the plethora of pigeons around London, or taking a photo with a busker, which ended up becoming more of a complex situation for my team.

At 2:30pm we reunited at Baker Street, sharing stories with friends after a rather fatiguing day searching for stations and in pursuit of pigeons. And finally, on the train ride home, we all reminisced about the time spent with new friends, the valuable memories we made that day, and of course, wondering if we had done enough to obtain the first place prize…
