Sport
Sport plays a major part in the life of the School. All students have two hours of Physical Education curriculum time each week, and we run an extensive co-curricular programme which provides the opportunity for all students to take part in some form of competitive or recreational physical activity.
Challoner's is noted for its sporting achievements. Our major sports are football, hockey, cross country, rugby, basketball, cricket, athletics and tennis. Inter-school fixtures are played weekly throughout the year. Our teams take part in all the major local competitions and a number of students regularly achieve representative honours at county, regional and national level. Sports tours abroad are organised on a regular basis; venues include Holland and Sri Lanka.
Our facilities for sport are second to none and include two sports halls, a floodlit all-weather sports pitch, eight tennis courts, a climbing wall, two fitness suites, as well as extensive playing fields which have football pitches, a rugby pitch and a cricket square.
Our ‘Parents Sports Strategy Committee’ (PSSC) are extremely supportive of the PE Team, and are crucial in helping us to maintain the co-curricular sports programme. Apart from funding external coaches for several different sports, they organise a programme of ‘paid activities’ which include climbing, squash, fencing, boxing, strength & conditioning, tennis and judo.
