Enrichment Day: Year 8 RAF Hendon

On 24 September, Year 8 students went on a fact-packed trip to the Royal Air Force Museum as part of their enrichment day. Located on the former Hendon Aerodrome, a site with aviation roots dating back to 1909, the museum consists of 6 hangars, each covering a period of aviation history - from the First World War to the present day.

There was a huge amount to do on our visit. On top of the expansive collection of modern and historic aircraft on display, there were viewing platforms, plenty of information boards, and interactive exhibits where you could hear about the heroic stories of pilots flying in various conflicts. There was even a flight simulator! To ensure we made the most of our visit, we were given booklets with various activities to complete. I enjoyed the drawing activities - the objective was to capture the aerodynamic lines and shapes of the planes, tying in with our study of the art deco style in art class.

Ultimately, this trip was a great opportunity for students to learn about both the history and future advancements of aviation.
