Late Transfer Admissions
Late Transfer
As an academy Dr Challoner’s Grammar School administers its own late transfer testing. Admission to Years 8, 9 and 10 (and to Year 7 from 01 January each academic year) will be handled in accordance with the school’s Late Transfer Procedure. Please refer to Section 3 of the school’s Admission Policy 2026 for full details, including the late transfer over subscription criteria.

Testing Process
The academic eligibility of candidates seeking admission under the school’s Late Transfer Procedure will be assessed through curriculum based tests in English and Mathematics. Candidates will be required to achieve a minimum standard in each of the tests in order to qualify. We do not provide sample papers and advise that coaching or revision is not required.
Testing does not mean that there are places available, but allows the school to establish a waiting list of qualified candidates should a place become available. The test is valid for 12 months. Your son will need to sit the test in the next testing round to retain his place on the waiting list.
Please note: Applicants from outside the catchment area will only be tested if there are 10 or less applicants from within the catchment area in the relevant year group.
Timeline for Late Transfer 2026
- From 3 November 2025 - Parents can register their son online from 09:00
- Monday 12 January 2026 at 16:00 - Closing date for submitting the online registration form and providing address evidence
- Tuesday 10 February 2026 - Testing takes place at the school from 09:00
- Notification of results will be sent by email in April 2026
Please be aware that each year we receive a substantial number of students registering to take the test for a very small number of possible places for those who qualify. Therefore many applicants will be disappointed. If you would like to appeal please contact the Clerk to the Independent Appeals Panel at appealsclerk@challoners.org
Please note that the school will not deal with admissions queries on the telephone because our calls are not recorded. Please email admissions@challoners.org with any enquiries.
