This week the school welcomed former Football Association and Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein for a lecture on his role in the creation of the Premier League and the dramatic growth of the sport over the past 20 years. Dein was instrumental in laying the foundations for the 1992 Premier League breakaway and at Arsenal, among other successes, was crucial in acquiring the services of Arsene Wenger, Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry.

He frequently referred to the skills he required and utilised in his successful 24 years as Arsenal's vice chairman. Most memorable was his belief in always pioneering new ideas and methods, as shown by his demonstration of the new Vanishing Spray currently being used by Premier League referees for the first time this season. In addition, Dein discussed what is required to be a top footballer in a very competitive environment and also the importance of having a good attitude and work ethic to accompany physical ability. Overall, Dein's thoughts and stories about his life in football were well received and we look forward to hearing from another fascinating guest soon.
