Dr Fenton and guests - Max Povinelli, Year 13

The official ceremony for the presentation of previous Year 11s with their official GSCE certificates is always a well-attended event, not least because that entire cohort is invited. The guest speaker was Sir Jonathan Phillips, the Warden of Keble College, Oxford and a former senior civil servant who worked with Tony Blair on the Northern Ireland peace process. The Vice Chairman of the Governors congratulated all the students on their success, and then handed over to Dr Fenton who outlined a glowing report of the school year, highlighting various visits and sporting achievements.

Then it was time for the main event, the presentation of the certificates. We accepted these from Sir Jonathan, and the applause was continuous for the whole half an hour it took to go through all the students. Following this the special prizes where awarded: ones for each individual subject, and others for contribution to school life.

The evening closed with a wonderful speech from Sir Jonathan, stressing the importance of both resilience and community, and congratulating the students of Dr Challoner's for their brilliant academic achievements.
