Writing: Alex Bear (Year 11)
This week saw students in Year 11 from Challoner's and also from other local schools attend consecutive meetings as they start to make decisions about their future. Some of us gathered in the hall to discuss a future in medicine, dentistry and veterinary. A talk led by Mrs Fletcher - head of the Medics Society at school - detailed everything we would need to know to achieve success. We learnt about the correct A Level choices and what extra-curricular activities we could to do bolster our applications. This led on to a discussion about the Medics Society itself: a brilliant program where students can get lectures and more help as we progress through Sixth Form.
On the following day we had a meeting to discuss our futures in a wider scope with a talk about A Level choices. Students from other schools were again invited to look around and consider a career at Challoner's. The meeting started with a talk about the A Level courses available, and then we toured the school, having the opportunity to talk to subject leaders and discuss our options.
Nights like these are really useful to make the final decisions. Students now have to make their choices and input them before December and then they begin the run up to mock exams.
