Last week the whole of Year 9 were treated to a day of workshops relating Chemistry and other aspects of science outside of the laboratory, which was conducted by a group of external speakers.

The students got to sample a vast array of demonstrations and participated in workshops allowing them to make links with the importance of science outside the classroom. Highlights were the making of hair gel, a demonstration of a real size chip pan fire and a hands on session using chemistry with the Police.

The day was enjoyed by both students and staff as it covered topics which are not in the syllabus but are often in the media, and has helped encourage the development of scientific curiosity throughout the year.
