In the recently published Wisden Cricketers' Almanac 2012, the DCGS 1st XI was listed first in the table of 'outstanding seasons' for 2011. The team's win rate of 88.89% bettered a host of famous cricketing public schools.
This accolade was well deserved as the team won 8 out of their 9 matches that season including victories over RGS High Wycombe, Aylesbury Grammar, Brentwood, Merchant Taylor's and the MCC. The batting was anchored by Matt Rance and Alex Morgan with valuable contributions from Hassaan Mohamed and George Shiel. Jack Rogers lead the bowling attack with tight spin support from Izhan Khan. Garry Emery led the side exceptionally well and could always be relied upon when the going got tough.
The team had a pre-season tour to the Rose Bowl in Southampton which definitely helped build a strong team ethos and the positive support of each other undoubtedly contributed to the success they achieved. Despite some students moving on, the team continues to develop the positive brand of cricket they played last season and are taking it to new heights.
