27th May 2011
Congratulations to Cameron Ford (Year 12) who has recently been awarded a place at the 2011 Professor Harry Messel International Science School. The Science School is held once every two years and is hosted by the University of Sydney, Australia. Cameron, along with only four other students from the UK, will attend the school for two weeks at the beginning of July. The school will also be attended by students selected from the USA, China, Japan, India, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and New Zealand .
The School aims to celebrate academic excellence and to stimulate students by bringing them together to hear lectures on some of the most exciting, contemporary developments in the physical sciences, given by lecturers whose work forms part of those developments. The theme of this years’ school is “Light and Matter”.
The students will be accommodated on the University of Sydney’s campus and, in addition to the academic events, students are encouraged to take part in a range of social activities. As well as looking forward to the academic aspects, Cameron is hoping to have time for some sightseeing, including a scheduled evening cruise around Sydney Harbour!
