On Friday 19th March, we staged the first ever House Swimming Gala. There was great excitement amongst the students as House Captains began the difficult task of team selection. There was a mixture of relays and individual races, and also a range of different age categories. Finally, over one hundred students across all year groups descended upon Amersham Pool amidst great excitement and anticipation. The whole of Year 7 were invited to watch and provided the atmosphere to match the occasion.

The freestyle relays kicked off the gala, followed by individual races in the Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke and Butterfly. Apart from some outstanding swimming performances, there were also some interesting swimming ‘costumes’ and some fantastic belly-flops! The Gala was rounded off with the Medley relays, followed by the final ‘Squad’ relay which involved one student from each Year group in a 7 x 25m race.

At the end of all the fun, the winning house was Thorne and Captain Michael Bath was presented with the inaugural House Swimming Trophy before being thrown into the pool fully clothed! This was a fantastic event which brought together students of all abilities, from all year groups, to epitomise the team spirit that makes our school such a special place.
