The beginning of July saw the annual summer concert and despite the heat our junior musicians played superbly! String Ensemble set the tone for the evening with a great rendition of the Game of Thrones theme tune, followed by Brass Ensemble with the soothing Bone Idyll.
Ewan Gronbach (Year 10) was next up, playing a piano rendition of Sam Smith's Writing's On The Wall. Ewan's elegant performance ended in a cheeky musical flourish, and by the grin on his face we could see Ewan was enjoying the piece as much as the audience! This was the first of a number of student-led performances, that also included a drum solo from Tommy Davies (Year 10), brothers Jewook and Jeyoung Ryou (Year 10 and Year 11) playing the sprightly Un Bal on piano, as well as a Year 7 rock band stunning the audience with their incredible performance of Counting Stars by One Republic.
Our various music groups were out in force. Guitar Ensemble and Jazz Workshop both performed three pieces, with Jazz Workshop's rendition of Twist and Shout getting Mr Burn dancing in the aisle! The summer concert also took on a new vibe this year, with debut performances from the Latin Jazz Combo and Folk Group.
As usual the summer concert culminated in the majority of Year 7 performing God Only Knows by The Beach Boys. It is always a pleasure to see Year 7 singing on the mass, and it ended the evening on a high note.
