Students watching the talk - Will Piper, Year 10

On National Safer Internet Day, students in Years 8 and 10 were given an 'e-safety' presentation, followed by a video and a group activity. The presentation was given from a representative of Barnardo's who are part of the R U Safe project. This project was created to help reduce the number of children who are sexually exploited. She helped us to understand the problems, with a detailed presentation on what the project is about and how it is raising awareness around schools.

The talk was concluded with a hard-hitting video and an activity. The powerful video showed a young man who was sexually exploited. We were then asked to split up into groups and given questions to discuss. The questions looked at different points in the video and enhanced our understanding of e-safety.

Overall it was a very effective and compelling presentation which gave us a greater awareness of the issue of child sexual exploitation. We would encourage parents and carers to keep up to date with the issues so you are able to support your sons at home and would recommend you visit the CEOP, NSPCC and Barnardo's websites where you can find further information about what young people are doing, the risks and how you can help:
