Expanding a single bracket

Multiplication and division of directed numbers

Multiply or divide numbers as though they were both positive.

Then, if the signs of the two original numbers are the same the answer is positive, but if the signs are different the answer is negative.

Expanding a bracket

To multiply out a bracket, multiply each term inside the bracket by the term outside.

Make sure you are happy working with positive and negative numbers. It may be a good idea to revise that first.
