Leaving a Legacy

The school site is a combination of beautiful, exquisite old buildings, and modern, cutting-edge architecture

If you have valued and continue to enjoy your relationship with us, whether as a former student, parent, grandparent or friend, you may wish to consider leaving a legacy in your Will. Leaving a gift in your Will can make a tremendous difference to the lives of our young students, making it possible for us to improve facilities within the school and provide the very best learning environment for students. Your legacy is a gift to our future students.

One advantage of making a bequest is that the Dr Challoner’s School Educational Trust is a Registered Charity (number 298550), ensuring that all gifts are free of inheritance tax.

There are two main types of legacies:

  • A residuary legacy is a gift of all or part of what remains in your estate after all debts, taxes and other bequests have been made.
  • A pecuniary legacy is a specified sum of money. This will not be liable for inheritance tax, although the real value of your gift will be eroded over time unless it is linked to the Retail Price Index.

We highly recommend that you use the services of your solicitor or professional adviser for the appropriate wording. For further help or guidance from the School, please contact the Development Director on 01494 787570.

Legacies have always played a vital role in the life of a school. It is thanks to a legacy left by the Reverend Robert Chaloner that the school still exists and flourishes today. We hope you will feel able to continue this tradition.
