Language College
The school was designated a Specialist Language College in 2007 and is now forging a number of new international links. In addition to established links with schools in France and Germany, we are currently developing an exciting new partnership with a school in southern Spain.
As well as the traditional options of French, German and Spanish, students now have the opportunity to study a wider range of languages and Mandarin and Russian are also becoming more established in the curriculum. In addition, students are encouraged to gain accreditation for languages they have learnt outside of school through the Asset Languages Scheme. During the last year students have gained qualifications in Urdu, Gujerati, Hindi, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese.
A variety of visits and exchanges give students ample opportunity to practise their language skills. In 2008/09 trips to Santander, Bensheim, Brandenberg, Berlin and Marseille have given students an deeper insight into the value of studying languages. In addition, the Modern Languages Team has recently organised enrichment days focusing on Chinese culture, language and history for Year 7 students, whilst Year 12 students made Spanish versions of a number of popular TV shows including Allá Tu (Deal or No Deal).
The School is proud to have been recently awarded the International School Award from the British Council.
